THE EQUATION
The Altigenerator system is mainly based on an aeronautical law: F = M/f. In other words: the power needed by an aircraft to zero (maintain its altitude) is equal to its weight divided by its glide ratio. So, weighing 70 Kg, if I add my wing and a 30 Kg propeller, it makes 100Kg. A delta wing with a glide ratio of about 10 (able to fly 100 meters from a height of 10 meters). With 10 kg of thrust I fly, with 11 I take off!
The limits of this law are less the glide ratio of the wing than the speed of flight. The aerodynamic efficiency of the wing is very important but the most energy consuming is the speed of flight. In general, all free flight wings have excellent performance. The speed of flight is mainly based on the wing loading. If you fly under 14 m2 of cloth when you should be flying under 16 M2 you will fly faster.
To improve the aerodynamic efficiency of an aircraft it is important to get 3 points as close as possible: The point of lift of the wing, the centre of gravity of the pilot + aircraft and the point of thrust materialized by the centre of the propeller.
As we are using pendulums it is necessary to compensate for the closeness of the wing’s point of lift to the aircraft’s centre of gravity by improving the manoeuvrability.
Bringing the propeller closer to the centre of gravity of our machine will require a propeller of limited diameter. The reduction in propeller efficiency will have to be compensated for by reducing the energy-generating nose-up torque.
The Altigenerator system has been designed with this equation in mind.
THE STRUCTURE
The first Altigenerators were a very elegant and reliable aluminium profile assembly, but limited to a design that I would describe as skeletal.
The evolution of composite and especially carbon moulding techniques no longer limits fairings to an aesthetic role to hide the metal structural framework.
Modern carbon moulded parts are reliable, strong, rigid, aesthetic and above all light. A single moulded part replaces a large number of metal parts, which simplifies assembly.
The Altigenerator 2021 range is made up of carbon moulded parts.
These parts are versatile and can be used in the assembly of different models of the Altigenerator range.
SECURITY
Bringing the wing closer to the structure positions the pilot in a cage of cables and tubes that protects him – the pilot’s feet are in front and his body is firmly attached to the rigid structure by the shoulder straps and seat belt.
In the event of a landing the pilot can easily free himself from his seat.
ASSEMBLY TRANSPORT AND STORAGE
The desire to fly is often thwarted by the need to transport and assemble the aircraft. Simplifying the transport and unfolding of our flying machines has been our top priority.
The aircraft is folded in one piece and unfolded in a few clicks without tools.
BUSINESS
The Altigenerator as a whole is a concept for a fast growing but relatively small market. Its aim is to satisfy a wide range of customers while allowing mass production of the modules that make up each device.
Altigenerator brings together all the quality requirements needed to create a dynamic and successful company. It is the result of half a century of research aided by technological evolution.
